Academics for interaction design

A profession related to interaction design, is currently one of the most sought after in the world. Those interested have to know what are the good interaction design programs available in the market, the skills and experience required and the knowledge of what interaction designers do on a daily basis.

Voids were created in the field of interaction design during the dot-com bust, but the recent resurrection of the Net has opened a vista for new practitioners to join. Interaction designers have formed a new group, the Interaction Design Association, which helps to spread a sea of knowledge that can be evenly shared by all interaction designers. In addition to the traditional areas for interaction designers, new fields of work have opened up in mobile and medical devices, and in the financial, entertainment, and retail service areas. The operating systems we are so familiar with are also undergoing rapid changes; efforts are being made to make them less and less tied to the metaphorical desktop they were built upon for the last 25 years.

The daily routine of an interaction designer is hard to predict; it might range from interviewing a client, doing field research, and brainstorming, writing documentation, building a prototype, or testing the product. It depends on what stage the project is at. Interaction designers get paid to try and make abstract ideas real, making interaction design one of the few jobs that pay people to just toy around with ideas. However, 3 essential qualities required are temperament, training, and experience; without these 3 favourable traits, one might start feeling claustrophobic very early itself.

Art schools tend to approach interaction design as a means of personal or brand expression rather than as an approach to solving product definition and usability problems. Many design programs still focus on tools rather than methods, but that school of thought is slowly being replaced.
